President
yosseph@ucla.edu
My name is Yosseph Osher, and I’m Moroccan and Tunisian mixed with almost anything Middle Eastern! At nine, I moved to America and grew a fascination for the variety of heritages around me. In creating Open Origins, I hope to spread multiculturalism and let people have a greater understanding of the many different perspectives around them.

Vice President
ftcoats@ucla.edu
I’m Franklin Coats, and I’m half Japanese and White. I grew up in LA and attended Japanese Saturday school for 9 years, so I can read and write Japanese. As Vice President of Open Origins, I hope to share my knowledge of my culture as well as gain a deeper understanding of others, creating a culturally diverse community.

Secretary
allenqi@ucla.edu
I was born in China and immigrated to the U.S. when I was seven. I carry with me a deep appreciation for Chinese history and culture, and through Open Origins, I hope to share my love for my culture and food while learning about others in the process.

Spirit
kemccarthy1113@ucla.edu
I’m Katie. I’m half Taiwanese and white (mostly Finnish and German). I joined Open Origins in order to be more in touch with my own culture, while also learning more about the cultures of others. As Spirit Committee Chair, I want to encourage others to do the same while also having fun.

Historian
mattjiyu@ucla.edu
I’m Matthew and I’m Thai-Vietnamese. My parents both moved to America when they were relatively young. Admittedly, feeling in touch with my heritage has been a learning process. I joined Open Origins because I wanted to create an environment where that learning process is encouraged, whether it be with your own culture or someone else’s, because it’s okay to not know everything!

Public Relations
rdavis2028@ucla.edu
My name is RaJanae (usually go by RaJ). I am from San Diego, CA. I am African American, with most of my family heritage in Louisiana and Mississippi. I joined Open Origins to find a sense of community and learn about other cultures.

Hello! My name is Uzziel Coreas. I’m a Salvadoran-American and grew up speaking Spanish as my primary language. I grew up in Downey, CA, where around 80% of the population shares my Hispanic heritage, and as such, I’ve always been interested in expanding my worldview. I’m drawn to Open Origins as it provides the opportunity to interact with the diverse perspectives I seek.
